Incumbent Cites Record of Success on Public Safety, Infrastructure and Government Accountability While Seeking New Two-Year Term
HYDE PARK, N.Y. — Hyde Park Town Supervisor Alfred “Al” Torreggiani, pointing to a record of success that includes public-safety improvements, infrastructure initiatives, strong town finances and investment in Hyde Park’s parks and quality of life, is running for re-election in the Nov. 3 general election.
Torreggiani’s accomplishments also encompass economic development and services for seniors and veterans, all underscored by championing transparency and accountability in town government. His administration has also worked to streamline municipal services through a more coordinated building and zoning approval process and has pursued job creation, business investment, housing opportunities and park improvements.
“Serving as Town Supervisor has given me the opportunity to work every day on issues that directly affect the people who call Hyde Park home – and my record shows that I get the job done,” Torreggiani said. “My focus has been on providing steady leadership and accountability, protecting taxpayers and making sure town government delivers results. We have tackled longstanding problems, and invested in public safety and infrastructure. I’m seeking another term because there is more work to do – and preserving Hyde Park residents’ quality of life is so important to me.”
Torreggiani was elected Town Supervisor in November 2021 and took office Jan. 1, 2022. He was re-elected in November 2025 and is seeking re-election to a new two-year term as a result of changes affecting the election cycle of the Town Supervisor’s term. Public safety has been an important Torreggiani focus. Under his leadership, Hyde Park completed a new pedestrian crossing on Route 9G/Violet Avenue serving Hyde Park Assisted Living, adding high-intensity flashing safety lights, enhanced signage and striping and accessible curbing.
Torreggiani also participated in a two-year effort that resulted in reducing the speed limit on East Dorsey Lane from 45 mph to 35 mph. His efforts also included a 25-mph speed limit in the former St. Peter’s School zone near Route 9G and East Dorsey Lane, as well as a five-ton weight limit on Creek Road to restrict heavy truck traffic through the residential neighborhood.
The town also was awarded a $200,000 New York State resilience grant to address flooding issues in the Roosevelt Road and Haviland Road areas. The funding will support field surveys, identification of low-lying areas and elevation mapping to help determine future work and pursue additional funding.
Torreggiani’s campaign points to improvements at Hackett Hill, Dinsmore and Beck parks. Projects have included a new basketball court and swing sets at Beck Park, fencing and playground improvements, and accessibility upgrades at Hackett Hill Park. The town secured a $1 million grant for long-needed renovations to the Hackett Hill pool and recently received an additional $112,000 grant to renovate the pool bathrooms, further advancing improvements to one of Hyde Park’s important recreational facilities.
The town additionally negotiated the purchase of an unused tract of land from the Roosevelt Fire District for $1, with plans for recreational facilities including pickleball courts and a pavilion. Hyde Park’s Hometown Heroes program and Veterans Advisory Committee are among the initiatives supporting local veterans.
A United States Army veteran, Torreggiani served four years of active reserve duty and two years of inactive reserve duty. He has lived in Hyde Park with his family for more than 35 years. Before becoming Town Supervisor, Torreggiani served for 14 years on the Dutchess County Industrial Development Agency. He also owns and operates a construction business employing approximately 150 people; his private-sector expertise managing projects, employees, schedules and budgets informs his approach to town government.
“Leadership means being accountable for the decisions you make and the results you deliver,” Torreggiani said. “Residents deserve a town government that listens, operates openly and responsibly, and stays focused on getting the work done.”
Torreggiani will be scheduling events that invite residents to meet him, meet new candidates, share their thoughts and offer ideas about the future of Hyde Park. The first event sponsored by Al Torreggiani, “Meet the Town Supervisor and New Candidates,” is Sept. 15, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Eveready Diner, 4184 Albany Post Road/Route 9, Hyde Park, N.Y. 12538. The event will provide residents with an opportunity to meet Torreggiani and new candidates, ask questions and discuss issues important to the community.
The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. Early voting will run from Saturday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 1.
