Hyde Park is proud to announce the completion of the Violet Avenue pedestrian safety project! Tragically, residents at Hyde Park Assisted Living faced hazardous conditions attempting to cross Violet Avenue to reach local shops that resulted in several accidents, some of which were fatal.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Supervisor Al Torreggiani, former Councilman John Lombardi, and County Executive Sue Serino the area has been transformed with:
- High-intensity flashing safety lights
- Enhanced crosswalk signage and striping
- ADA-accessible curbing for mobility ease
“This project is about more than just infrastructure; it’s about dignity and independence,” said Supervisor Al Torreggiani. “These improvements ensure that our seniors can safely enjoy the best of Hyde Park, from a morning coffee at Dunkin’ to dinner at A Touch of Naples.”
County Executive Sue Serino stated, “By removing the barrier of a dangerous road, we have effectively expanded the backyard for some of its most cherished citizens.”
