HYDE PARK, NY – Town Supervisor Al Torreggiani announced today that the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has officially approved a speed limit reduction on East Dorsey Lane. After two years of persistent coordination with State and County officials, the limit will drop from 45 mph to 35 mph.
In a dual win for community safety, Supervisor Torreggiani also confirmed a new 25 mph limit for the St. Peter’s School zone.
“Public safety has been a top priority, and while the process to secure this reduction was extensive, I am gratified to see these efforts come to fruition,” said Supervisor Torreggiani. He also credited former Town Councilman John Lombardi for his early collaboration with the County and State in initiating this change. Supervisor Torreggiani recognized Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, County Public Works Commissioner Bob Balkind, County Traffic Engineer Stephen Gill, and former Town of Hyde Park Highway Superintendent Howie Fisher, for their collaboration and efforts in getting this speed limit reduction accomplished.
The Supervisor concluded with a firm message for motorists: “Drivers must slow down. I am encouraging the Town Police to actively enforce these new limits to ensure the safety of our residents and students.”
