ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Al Torreggiani is dedicated to improving the quality of life for EVERY Hyde Park resident.
Among his accomplishments:
New Pedestrian Crossing, Route 9G
Residents at Hyde Park Assisted Living had faced hazardous conditions attempting to cross Violet Avenue to reach local shops. This resulted in several accidents, some that were fatal. Town Supervisor Al Torreggiani led efforts to transform that crossing, securing high-intensity flashing safety lights, enhanced crosswalk signage and striping and curbs that provide easy mobility.
Lower Speed Limit, East Dorsey Lane
Town Supervisor Al Torreggiani’s campaign to improve safety led to approval by the New York State Department of Transportation to reduce the speed limit on East Dorsey Lane. The two-year effort cuts the speed limit from 45 mph to 35 mph.
Lower Speed Limit, Former St. Peter’s School Zone
Town Supervisor Al Torreggiani’s efforts also led to the reduction of the speed limit to 25 mph in the former St. Peter’s School zone at Route 9G/East Dorsey Lane. That building now houses the Holy Trinity Elementary School Early Childhood Annex.
Flooding Relief Project
The Town, under Supervisor Al Torreggiani’s leadership, was awarded a $200,000 New York State Resilience Grant to address flooding issues in the Roosevelt Road/Haviland Road areas. The grant will allow the Town of Hyde Park to conduct land surveillance out in the field, identify low-lying areas and develop maps with elevation documents. Once these steps are complete, the Town will see bids and for apply for grants to fund the work.
Weight Limit,
Creek Road
Due to Town Supervisor Al Torreggiani’s initiative, a five-ton weight limit has been applied to Creek Road to prevent heavy trucks and dump trailers from going through the neighborhood district – a move that will help prevent future accidents.
Parks Improvements
Significant improvements have been made to Hackett Hill, Dinsmore and Beck Parks to include a new basketball court and swing sets at Beck Park (Cream Street and East Dorsey Lane), 100% funded by a grant from Dutchess County. Fencing also has been installed at Beck Park to reduce vandalism. Hackett Hill Park has received new fencing and grading around the playground to provide security and protect children, and the parking area people with disabilities was paved to provide smoother, easier access to Hackett Hill Park and the Paul Tegtmeier Memorial.
Land Purchase Creates New Recreational Facilities
Led by Town Supervisor Al Torreggiani, the Town negotiated with the Roosevelt Fire House to purchase an unused tract of land for $1. The land will be furnished with pickleball courts and a pavilion. This effort was inspired by Al’s commitment to expanding parks and recreation options, spaces and destinations that all Hyde Park families can enjoy.
